Residents in the port city of Dalian gathered in front of the municipal government's office, shouting demands of relocation and there were also confrontations between the protesters and riot police but no injuries were reported.They chanted "Fujia (the name of the chemical plant), get out!" in confrontation with hundreds of police on a square in front of the municipal government, official Xinhua news agency reported.Residents living near the plant had to be evacuated after waves triggered by an incoming storm breached a dyke protecting the factory and threatened to damage the building, sparking fears of a toxic chemical spill.Factory makes Paraxylene - a flammable carcinogenic liquid used in the production of polyester films and fabrics - and belongs to the Fujia group.The breached dyke has been repaired and no chemical leaks have been reported but the demand for relocation is gathering steam, the mediareport said.The city's top official Tang Jun tried to calm the crowd by promising to move the polluting project out of the city but the protesters showed nosign of dispersing.The reports said that government announced plans to move it out as it was located close to the coast.Earlier this weekriots broke out in Qianxi County aspeople gathered to protest what they call high handed approach of local officials.
