Iron ore extracted in guise of constructing pond: PAC
In a major industrial mishap, at least 12 workers died when molten iron spilled from a refining furnace at a steel factory in eastern China, localofficials said today.<br />The accident occurred when 13 workers were trying to shutdown the furnace of the steel factory in Jiangsu province yesterday.<br />"Due to high temperatures at the scene, it was difficult for rescuers to find the body of the last worker," state-run Xinhua news agency quoted Zhang Binjie, deputy director of the Nanjing Municipal Work Safety Bureau, as saying.<br />One worker sustained injuries at the plant operated by the Nanjing Iron and Steel Group Co Ltd, which were not life-threatening, he said.<br />The cause of the incident is under investigation, he said.<br />China had witnessed a similar accident in 2007, when some 26 tonnes of molten steel fell on 32 workers, killing all of them.
