Hundreds of homes destroyed as fires ravage Texas

Police cordoned off the Paramatta area of western Sydney where a middle-aged man accompanied by his 12-year daughter walked into a lawyer's chamber and told the reception, 'Phone the Attorney General office... I have got a bomb in my backpack'.A receptionist who confronted the man, said the man walked into the building at 0900 hr local time and asked to speak to someone."When told there was nobody by that name, the man snapped and said I have a bomb in my backpack," she told ABC News. The heart of Paramatta was shut down as police told the occupants to evacuate the area as they opened negotiations with him. Police also closed all streets around the building housing the lawyers chambers.Police said that the man had smashed the window of the room where he was holed up and was conveying his demands through pieces of paper.Assistant Commissioner of Police Denis Clifford said the man in his 50's had made a number of demands."We are working through those demands with him and we are doing the best to secure a peaceful resolution," Clifford said, as the drama dragged on for hours. This is a second bomb related scare, the Sydney had to face in recent weeks.A teenager had a fake bomb attached to her neck by an attacker at her home three weeks ago, in an apparent extortion attempt.A suspect was detained in the US and is awaiting extradition to Australia.
