What languages are spoken in India?
Hindi (northern India) and English (used in politics and commerce) are the officially used languages. More than 1,500 languages and dialects are spoken in India. The constitution recognizes 15 regional languages. They are: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Kashmiri, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Punjabi, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
India recognizes many official languages. Hindi, the national language is spoken by about 40% of the population and English is Spoken by about 25% of the population. 100's of other languages such as Gujarati, Marathi, Punjabi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kashmiri, Kannada, Assamese, Tripuri, Oriya, Konkani, etc.....
